This week you've joined Romance Weekly from the blog of Meggan Connors. I'm Fiona Riplee and check out some interesting facts about me and what I write.

Do you prefer to write futuristic, contemporary or historical romances and why?

I read a variety of books, fiction and nonfiction alike, but when I started to create my own stories I was pulled into writing paranormal/science fiction contemporaries. My Sixxer world is contemporary and I like how the secret Sixxer world unfolds around everyday people living in current times.

I am a huge fan of historical as well as paranormal and contemporary. Yet, I would be stumped if I started to write a historical. I think I would have some trouble with a futuristic novel but I could perhaps handle that more because I have a bigger idea pool to draw from. But I just haven’t had any characters express an interest in telling me about the future. (Yes, my characters do speak to me and usually take over the story.)

My characters really come alive for me in a current time line but in an other worldly or secret environment. As I’ve been exploring creativity this year it’s starting to make sense that I would naturally fall into the genre of paranormal and science fiction contemporaries. I have had a lot of images to feed that part of my brain.

I am a huge paranormal/science fiction movie and series fan. Each new obsession I had (X-files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Fringe, True Blood, Star Trek, Terminator, Star Man, Aliens, etc.) I wanted to take the characters of that world and interject romance and love along with conspiracy, intrigue, and danger. I needed to give my characters a happily ever after despite bizarre events happening around them.

What is your favorite time in history and how and why does it inspire you?

I would have to say that my favorite time in history so far would encompass the last 200 years because of the discoveries and advances in science. There is a heavy science theme in my stories that I just can’t get enough of. Science feeds the ideas in my head. I love to think my characters are on the bleeding edge of some important discovery. Since I can’t be a mad scientist myself, my characters can explore and discover for me. With a new race of alien people there is a lot to discover, not only about them but about human nature as well. It fascinates me.

How has your life experience contributed to your writing?

It’s probably inevitable that I would write about an alien race of people who I can’t help but find soul mates for. My young child self wanted to be an astronaut and super geek that I was I talked my parents into letting me go to Space Camp in Huntsville, AL. I thought for sure my life was headed in that direction. I haven’t made it into space (yet) but I can write about people who have or others who came from the stars.

And, like I mentioned before, I’m a huge science fiction movie/series fan. I love it. There are days when I think I couldn’t possibly want to read another paranormal book or watch another science fiction movie. But of course, that’s just a thought and before it’s even out of my head I’m deeply engrossed in the next chapter or searching Netflix for another movie to feed my geek brain. Combine this with an obsession with romance books and I’m ready to start writing.
